OVERVIEW

9 DAYS MASAI MARA / LAKE NAKURU / AMBOSELI / ARUSHA / SERENGETI / NGORONGORO CRATER SAFARI

A budget safari covering the Masai Mara, Lake Nakuru, Amboseli, Arusha, Serengeti, and Ngorongoro Crater offers an incredible opportunity to witness the highlights of East Africa’s wildlife without breaking the bank. This type of safari typically prioritizes maximizing game viewing while utilizing more affordable accommodation options and transportation.

Focus: The core of the experience will be on observing wildlife in some of the most famous parks in Kenya and Tanzania. Expect numerous game drives to spot the “Big Five” and a variety of other fascinating animals and birds.

Budget Considerations: To keep costs manageable, the safari will likely involve:

  • Accommodation: Staying in comfortable but basic tented camps (often with proper beds and bedding) or budget-friendly lodges located either inside or just outside the national park boundaries. These options might have shared facilities, although private rooms could be available at a slightly higher cost.
  • Transportation: Utilizing well-maintained safari vehicles (typically 4×4 vans in Kenya and Land Cruisers in Tanzania) for game drives and transfers between locations. These vehicles are designed for wildlife viewing with pop-up roofs.
  • Meals: Including most meals (breakfast, lunch, and dinner) at the accommodations or as packed lunches during full-day game drives. Beverages are usually at an extra cost.
  • Park Fees: The significant entry fees for the national parks in both Kenya and Tanzania will be included in the overall price.
  • Experienced Guides: Knowledgeable, English-speaking driver-guides who are essential for spotting wildlife and providing information about the flora, fauna, and local culture.

Typical Destinations and Highlights:

  • Masai Mara National Reserve (Kenya): Renowned for its abundant wildlife, including lions, elephants, leopards, cheetahs, and the annual Great Wildebeest Migration (July-October). Expect classic savannah landscapes and cultural interactions with the Maasai people.
  • Lake Nakuru National Park (Kenya): Famous for its alkaline lake that often attracts vast flocks of pink flamingos (though numbers can fluctuate). It’s also a crucial sanctuary for both black and white rhinos and Rothschild’s giraffes, as well as diverse birdlife.
  • Amboseli National Park (Kenya): Offers iconic views of Mount Kilimanjaro as a backdrop to large herds of elephants. You’ll also have opportunities to see lions, cheetahs, buffalo, and various plains game.
  • Arusha (Tanzania): This vibrant town serves as the gateway to the northern Tanzania safari circuit. It’s a common stopover for organizing and beginning the Tanzanian leg of your trip.
  • Serengeti National Park (Tanzania): The vast, seemingly endless plains are world-renowned for the Great Migration and exceptional predator sightings year-round. Expect incredible opportunities to witness the circle of life in action.
  • Ngorongoro Conservation Area & Crater (Tanzania): A UNESCO World Heritage Site, the Ngorongoro Crater is a massive, intact volcanic caldera teeming with a high concentration of wildlife, including the endangered black rhino. Descending into the crater offers a unique and unforgettable game viewing experience.
