Describe a comfortable day
Tell us the longest vehicle day your party is comfortable with, how often you need breaks and whether early departures work for everyone. Include children’s ages and any mobility or sensory needs before choosing the route. This gives the planner useful constraints instead of a broad request for a “family safari.”
A shorter trip can still contain a long transfer. Read the daily schedule and count hotel moves, then consider whether another night in the same area would improve the pace. Keep wildlife goals realistic: no guide can promise that a particular animal appears before a child needs a rest.
Compare a private vehicle with group joining
A private arrangement can give your party more scope to agree the day’s pace within the booked route. A shared departure needs to accommodate other travellers and its scheduled plan. Check which format the actual product offers and whether any requested change needs a separate quote.
Ask about boarding steps, seat arrangement, restraints and any child-seat requirement for your party. Vehicle suitability should be confirmed for the actual vehicle, not inferred from the words 4×4 or Land Cruiser.
Confirm the room allocation, not just the property
Published family tents, suites or connecting rooms are useful starting points. They do not guarantee the category is available on your dates or that your party meets occupancy rules. Ask for beds, bathrooms, room separation and accepted ages in writing.
On our profiles, the family filter means an officially published family-room option was found. It does not certify childcare, step-free access, a fenced property or supervised swimming. Those details require separate confirmation with the selected stay.
Make accessibility requests concrete
Describe transfers, walking distance, stairs, bathroom needs and whether anyone needs assistance boarding the vehicle. Ask for the path from vehicle drop-off to room, restaurant and bathroom to be checked. A smooth public area does not establish that the room or excursion is accessible.
If a medical device needs continuous electricity, state that before booking. A property with solar power or generator backup may still have restricted room charging or interruptions. Discuss medical and insurance needs with the relevant professional; the safari operator can confirm logistics, not personal medical suitability.
Keep optional activities optional
Walking, cycling, ballooning, boat trips and mountain excursions can impose age, mobility, weather or safety restrictions. Agree who can participate, who provides the activity and what an accompanying family member does instead. Do not let an advertised hotel activity become an assumed inclusion.
Around wildlife, follow the guide’s instructions even when animals appear accustomed to vehicles or camp. Do not feed them or let children approach them for photographs. Ask the property about its specific escort and supervision arrangements.
